UFC 149: Boetsch wins lackluster decision over Lombard – Play by Play

“The Barbarian,” Tim Boetsch (16-4) has stopped the long winstreak of former Bellator champ, Hector Lombard (31-3-1) in a lackluster three round split-decision. Here is the full play-by-play.

They don’t touch gloves and right away Boetsch fakes some punches and attempts the takedown. Lombard practically throws Boetsch.  Lombard tries to capitalize but Boetsch is able to slip and it’s standing. Low leg kicks for Boetsch. Failed takedown attempt for Boetsch. Lombard looks unafraid as he stands still waiting for Boetsch to come in. Boetsch is being very creative with his fakes and takedown attempts but again Lombard easily moves to the side and stuffs. Round ends with no significant strikes.

Round Two:
Lombard slips on a big right, quickly off his knees. Left hand lands for Lombard. Low legs is Boetsch most effective attacks so far. Left over the top comes inches from Boetsch. Left uppercut lands flush for Lombard. Kick to the body hurts Boetsch, Lombard swarms the back. Boetsch able to get it standing and shoots.

Round Three:
Superman punch by Boetsch. Both men overall tentative. Boetsch switching back in forth stance. Crowd is booing loud… Boetsch and Lombard clinch and Boetsch goes for the trip and somehow ends on the bottom. They stand quickly. Lombard shoots and finally a big double leg lifts and drops Boetsch. Lombard lands some knees and it’s over.

Official: Tim Boetsch defeats Hector Lombard via split-decision (29-28 28-29, 29-28)

Boetsch is now calling for a title fight with dominating champ, Anderson Silva. Should he receive the match is anyone’s guess. With Boetsch and newcomer Chris Weidman both calling for the shot, it is likely that we will hear the UFC’s pick at the post-fight press conference as President White had said he would have answers tonight. .
