All credit to Bethe Correia. She had a game plan to draw Holly Holm out and counter-punch her at the main event of UFC Fight Night 111 this past weekend, and when that resulted in a ton of boos, and the referee saying something along the lines of, “God, this is boring – ladies, please fight,” the Brazilian tossed her game plan out the window and beckoned for Holm to engage.
So Holm knocked her out with a kick to the head.
Really, Correia was the sacrificial lamb that ensured that Holm will keep getting fights in the Octagon. Major props to her.
Anyway, she’s awake now, and she posted a statement to her fans on Instagram.
I want to congratulate Holly for the fight. Even though she was coming from three losses she didn’t quit and hide, and fought me on the main event. I want to thank all my fans, partners and team. I won’t return with the victory I dreamed of, but I return with my head held high with a dream to fight in Asia realized and being a protagonist of the night. A dream a lot of people have but never realized. I can only say this to my fans that like Bethe Correia: I WILL BE BACK STRONGER THAN EVER! YOU CAN BE SURE OF IT!!!!! #betheeffect ##strongwoman #ufcsingapore . . Podem me aguardar!!!!
