Andrei Arlovski continued one of MMA’s most memorable comebacks last night at UFC 187, earning victory in a wild heavyweight brawl on the event’s undercard.
The former UFC heavyweight champion was written off by most observers after suffering a four fight losing streak back in 2011.
So it was perhaps fitting that he had to rise off the canvas last — courtesy of a Travis Browne punching combination — to score a dramatic first round technical knockout.
A post event press conference it was revealed that Arlovski earned yet another honor with the fight, which was Arlovski’s third straight win in the UFC, and fifth straight overall.
Arlovski vs. Browne was awarded “Fight of the Night” by UFC last night, netting both Arlovski and Browne a cool $50,000 bonus.
The post-fight bonus was the second of Arlovski’s career, and the sixth of Browne’s.
The other post-fight bonus winners for UFC 187 were Daniel Cormier and Chris Weidman, who were each named “Performance of the Night.” They will also receive $50,000 each.
The honor was the second of Cormier’s UFC career, who won “fight of the night” honors for his last bout — a loss to former titleholder Jon Jones. At UFC 187, Cormier won the vacant UFC light heavyweight title in the main event, dispatching Anthony Johnson with a rear naked choke.
The bonus was the sixth in Weidman’s career. At UFC 187, he defended his UFC middleweight title for the third time in the co-main, scoring a TKO win over Vitor Belfort.
