Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira is healed and ready to return to the octagon. The Calgary Sun has reported that Nogueira (33-7-1 MMA, 4-3 UFC) vs. Cheick Kongo (33-7-1 MMA, 4-3 UFC) has been added to UFC 149 in Alberta, Calgary on July 21. The venue for the card is expected to be the Scotiabank Saddledome. Though unofficial, UFC execs have said that the event is targeted to headline a title fight affair between Jon Jones and Dan Henderson.
Following a brutal bone breaking loss to Frank Mir at UFC 140 in Dec., ‘Minotauro’ will look to add Kongo to his list of recent victories, including Brendan Schaub, Randy Couture and Tim Sylvia. Big Nog may have not been able to string together any streaks as of late, but has only suffered losses to to former champions Frank Mir and Cain Velasquez since 2006.
Kongo will be looking to pull the rebound as well after suffering a TKO loss to Mark Hunt at UFC 144 in Feb. Prior to the loss, the Frenchmen had pulled back-to-back victories over Pat Barry and Matt Mitrione.
