Anderson Silva Update: All Is Normal

ufc 183

Dr. Marcio Tannure, the man who operated on former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva after he broke his leg, said the back pain recently suffered has nothing to do with the surgery performed on “The Spider.”

Silva is still scheduled to return to the Octagon this January against Nick Diaz at UFC 183. It will have been over a year since he last fought, having suffered the leg injury vs. Chris Weidman last December.

“He has felt this pain before,” Tannure told “It has nothing to do with the surgery. Strengthening and balance of the muscles are the best prevention for this type of problem, along with reducing training intensity.”

Silva (33-6) was rushed to a local hospital in Brazil over the weekend after losing feeling in both his legs following a training session. He has since been released and is at his home in his native country.

Along with returning to action in 2015, Silva is also set to coach on The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil 4 with Mauricio “Shogun” Rua.
