Perhaps the biggest name in Strikeforce today with the release of heavyweight champ Alistair Overeem, the loss of champ Nick Diaz, and the recent release of Fedor Emelianenko, lightweight champ Gilbert Melendez (19-2) will look to defend his title this fall. Melendez will look to defend his title against the Jorge Masvidal (22-6).
The news was reportedly leaked to MMAFighting by Cesar Gracie himself (Melendez Trainer). It was originally also reported by CEO Scott Coker that the winner of Masvidal vs Noons would get the next title shot.
Melendez will be riding off a five fight winstreak with his last performance being an utter dominant fight over Tatsuya Kawaji in which he finished in the first with viscous punches and elbows.
Masvidal on a current two fight winstreak defeated the heavy handed KJ Noons by way of strikes, shocking many analyst in his stand-up improvement.
