Overeem out of Strikeforce Tourney due to hurt toe, still under contract
Early reports of conflicts between Alistair Overeem and his new bosses over at Zuffa were heard on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani as Overeem said that the company threatened to cut him from the tourney if he would not sign a Sept. 10 bout agreement.
“What’s going to happen next, I don’t know,” Overeem told MMA Fighting. “I’ve had some threats of cutting me out of the tournament if I don’t participate. I don’t know if they’re going to do it.”
Overeem did go on to publicly state that the reason being was he had suffered a broken pinky toe and would not be ready for the purposed date.
Following the news, Daniel Cormier has stepped in as Overeem’s replacement against Antonio ‘Big Foot’ Silva on the Sept. 10 tournament bout.
Dana White further verified that the Strikeforce champ is still under contract and still the Strikeforce heavyweight champ and would be given a fight as soon as he is healed and ready.
