Fedor Emelianenko released from Strikeforce

The rise and now fall of one of the greatest in the sport has taken place today as UFC president Dana White confirmed at todays UFC 133 press conference that Fedor Emelianenko has been released from Strikeforce. The news is not too much of a shock to the MMA community as Emelianenko had recently suffered his third straight loss at the hands of Dan Henderson.  It’s likely the promotion felt the hefty price tag of Emelianenko is not worth the marketing power he once
carried prior to three-straight loses.

For many years White had been frustrated by negotiations with M-1 Global failing due to a refusal to co-brand Emelianenko’s fights. White released many shots at the ‘Last Emperor ‘ during the conference.

“You guys thought he was the pound-for-pound best fighter in the worldI said he was overrated for years, said White

“Fedor’s Strikeforce days have to come to an end.”

“Having your promotion carried by Fedor is like having your promotion carried by Kimbo Slice,”.
