Cris Cyborg: ‘My division no longer exists. I’m waiting to be released by UFC’

If you were part of the many fans with enthusiasm over a possible Rousey vs. Cyborg fight, you may be left disappointed . Following Saturday night’s action where we witnessed the champ pull off her ninth straight armbar (including amateur) over former champ Sarah Kaufman with ease, Rousey quickly called out the former Strikeforce featherweight champ, Cristiane ‘Cyborg’ Justino.

The crowd lit up with excitement over the call out – unfortunately the feeling was not the same for the currently suspended former champ, Justino who says there is no way she could ever cut an additional 10 pounds.

Guys, I’m afraid that fight is not happening. My division no longer exists. I’m waiting to be released from the UFC.

The news was quickly brought up during the post-fight press conference where Strikeforce founder Scott Coker replied.

“She must be misinformed, I don’t understand why she’d be saying that since we just had a 145-pound fight on the card tonight.” – via (Hiroko Yamanaka vs. Germaine de Randamie).

Hopefully it is simply that Santos is unaware of the ongoing female 145 pound division, still intact. Hopefully  she isn’t referring to the lack of unbeaten talent in the division. The up and coming all female Invicta FC promotion has been garnering attention with its online, free cards as of late. It’s likely that Cyborg may be in hopes of just making the move outside the Zuffa umbrella soon.
