WSOF 17, Featuring Jake Shields, Finalizes Lineup

MMA World Series of Fighting 17 will present their first event of 2015 later this month, featuring one of the promotion’s biggest names — and the full main card lineup has been finalized.

Yesterday the promotion posted the full main card on their website for WSOF 17, scheduled for January 17 at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, NV.

Headlining, of course, is a welterweight title eliminator between Jake Shields (30-7-1, one no-contest) and Brian Foster (22-6).

Shields (seen above in a 2014 bout against Damien Maia), of San Francisco, CA, has long been ranked among the top-ranked 170 lb fighters in MMA. In October of 2014, the Cesar Gracie disciple defeated Ryan Ford in his WSOF debut by a first round choke. The submission victory brought Shields’ MMA record to 30-7-1, with one no contest. A decorated amateur wrestler, Shields once challenged Georges St-Pierre for the UFC Welterweight Title, and was also Strikeforce Middleweight Champion.

Foster, of Sallisaw, Oklahoma, will make his promotional debut at WSOF 17 riding a four fight winning streak. He recently held the welterweight title for VFC, but is best known for his 2009-2010 tenure in the UFC. His MMA record of 22-6 is highlighted by victories over Matt Brown, Brock Larson, and former WSOF Welterweight Champion Steve Carl.

Bulgarian Krasimir Mladenov is a late addition to the card, replacing the injured Jesse Taylor in a middleweight bout against Brendan Kornsberger of Canada. Both Mladenov and Kornsberger are undefeated in their young MMA careers, at 11-0 and 5-0 respectively.

Full lineup:

Welterweights: Jake Shields (30-7-1, one no contest) vs. Brian Foster (22-6)
