Shigeyuki Uchiyama was winning his Pancrase fight in a dominant fashion over Masaya “J-Taro” when the two fell through the ropes during a double leg takedown. In the fall somehow the top section of Uchiyama’s ear was severed off.
It is unknown exactly how the cauliflower ear was partially cut off, but it is assumed it was due to his ear sliding across the vertical ropes.
As soon as the Officials of Pancrase saw the severed ear on the mat, the fight was stopped at 2:57 of round two.
Shigeyuki Uchiyama was en route to a win over Masaya “J-Taro” Takita, bloodying his opponent with punches and knees and controlling the pace comfortably.
