ONE Championship’s return to the Philippines in December has been described as a historic show for the Singapore-based MMA promotion.
As we described here at Caged Insider, ONE 36: Spirit of Champions, which will be held Dec 11 at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City (Metro Manila), will crown ONE’s first ever heavyweight champion: either Brandon Vera (left) or Chi Lewis-Parry.
England’s Lewis-Parry is 6-0 with one no-contest in MMA, but hasn’t fought since 2014. He may be better known for a recent run with GLORY kickboxing, where he earned a 2-1 record.
The Filipino-American Vera, of course, is well known to MMA fans due to his long career with the UFC. He made his ONE debut last year, defeating Igor Subora by TKO.
Yesterday, The promotion revealed that the event will also feature some other names familiar to the fast-growing Filipino MMA scene.
First, former boxing champion Ana Julaton, who is 2-1 in MMA, will make her return to the cage at ONE 36. The Filipino-American Julaton last fought in December, when she defeated Walaa Abaas of Egypt by decision in ONE’s last visit to the Philippines. Prior to that, she split two bouts for the promotion: a split decision loss to rising Malaysian star Ann Osman, and a TKO of Egypt’s Aya-Saeid Saber.
While she’s been out of MMA action for a year, Julaton hasn’t been totally inactive: in March of this year, she won a boxing match in Mexico.
Julaton will face the 1-0 Irena Mazepa, a Russian kickboxer. Earlier this month in Malaysia, Mazepa made her MMA debut a memorable one at ONE — handing Ann Osman her first loss in a brutal first round TKO.
Also on the show, bantamweight Mark Striegl of the Philippines, who is 14-2 in his MMA career, will face the undefeated Jordan Lucas of Australia. Striegl last fought for ONE back in April, scoring a submission victory over Casey Suire. Lucas is making his ONE debut.
A flyweight bout was also added: Alex Silva of Brazil, who is 2-1 in MMA, vs. Ruel Catalan of the Philippines, who is 2-6.
