Fresh off a visit to Malaysia this past weekend, which featured a main event described by many as a “Fight of the Year” candidate, Singapore-based MMA promotion ONE Championship looks to continue their momentum with next month’s ONE 34: Pride of Lions.
The show, which will take place in ONE’s home base of Singapore on November 13 at the Singapore Indoor Stadium, is headlined by a welterweight title bout between Ben Askren (pictured above) and Luis “Sapo” Santos.
The promotion announced three new bouts for the event today.
First is a featherweight contest between Kotetsu Boku and Major Overall. The US-born, Singapore-based Overall is 6-1 in MMA, including a dramatic soccer kick knockout of Bruno Pucci at ONE 16: Honor & Gory back in May. His opponent, the Korean-born and Japanese-based Boku (22-10 in MMA), was a staple of the Japanese scene for more than a decade; and this bout will mark his sixth ONE appearance.
Second is a women’s strawweight bout between Angela Lee (2-0), a Hawaii-born fighter of Singaporean origin, and Natalie Gonzales Hill (2-2), an Australian of Filipino descent. Hill has won both her ONE bouts with first round submissions, while Gonzales Hill is making her promotional debut.
Finally, Singapore’s Amir Khan (3-2) returns to the ONE cage for the fourth time, to face Jimmy Yabo (4-1) of the Philippines in a featherweight contest.
ONE Championship 34: Pride of Lions is headlined by the rematch between ONE welterweight champion Ben Askren, who is 14-0 in his MMA career, and Luis “Sapo” Santos, who is 61-9-1. Back in May, heavy underdog Santos surprised many by taking the early advantage against Askren in their bout, but the action was halted due to an accidental eye poke and eventually ruled a no contest.
The event is expected to stream live via internet PPV in North America.
