Tuesday, two famed MMA coaches, Greg Jackson and Michael Winkeljohn were honored in Albuquerque, New Mexico by Mayor Richard J. Berry, as he declared it to be from then on known as “Jackson/Winkeljohn MMA Day” for all their accompliments.

The two coaches who run “Jackson’s and Winkeljohn’s MMA Academy,” were given the announcement at a special public ceremony in their honor.

Mayor Berry was quoted saying at a press release;

They have had offers to move their gym elsewhere, but they have decided to keep it in their hometown. They are truly two of Albuquerque’s favorite sons.”

Jackson and Winkeljohn have helped mold many young men into the great fighters they are today, such as UFC welterweight champ Georges St. Pierre, former WEC welterweight champ Carlos Condit, and UFC light heavyweight champ Rashad Evans. As well as UFC fighters Jon Jones, Shane Carwin, Nate Marquardt and Strikeforce fighter Joey Villasenor.
