Titan FC Featherweight Champion Desmond Green entered the cage to his usual “The Champ is Here” music last night at Titan FC 33, but his bout against challenger Kurt Holobaugh (pictured above) didn’t end the way he had hoped.
Holobaugh, who was making his second Titan FC appearance, earned a split decision over the former University of Buffalo wrestling standout Green, earning the promotion’s 145 lb title at what was called “The Night of Champions” in Mobile, AL.
Louisiana native Holobaugh avoided almost all of Green’s takedowns throughout the bout, and mostly out-struck him over its five round duration.
The first round was close, but Green scored a decisive takedown for some ground and pound to finish the stanza. From there on out, Holobaugh kept the bout standing almost without exception, and his strikes were a bit more effective.
Scores were read as 49-46, 47-48, and 48-47. The new champ Holobaugh improves to 15-2 in his MMA career, and 2-0 in Titan FC. Green, of New York, falls to 14-4 and 2-1 in the promotion.
Earlier in the evening, champions were crowned in three other divisions for Titan FC. Most notably, Pat Healy, who has spent the last five years fighting for the UFC and Strikeforce, earned the vacant Titan FC lightweight championship in a decision victory over Kurt Kisner.
