M-1 has announced via twitter that ‘The Last Emperor’ Fedor Emelianenko will be making his return to M-1 promotions against former UFC top heavyweight contender Pedro Rizzo.
Despite rumors of Fedor finally making a debut in the octagon, or taking on Rolles Gracie, or even wrestler Bobby Lashley, the M-1 management has made an executive decision to have their top client fight the 37-year-old Rizzo.
The event will take place June 21 on Russian soil at the Ice Palace in St. Petersburg, Russia and will likely be available via pay-per-view.
Rizzo will be returning after a two-year layoff from fighting. Prior to the long hiatus Rizzo had pulled off back-to-back TKO victories over fellow former stars Gary Goodridge and Ken Shamrock in 2010.
Emelianenko has not had the most stellar record as well in the last two years as he was cut by the Strikeforce promotions for three-straight losses at the hands of Fabricio Werdum, Antonio Silva and Dan Henderson. Since the losses, Emelianenko has began to redeem himself with victories over Jeff Monson and Satoshi Ishii in 2011.
We will continue to update you as the details release.
