Fresh off their biggest event in their brief history last weekend in Dubai, ONE FC has announced plans for one of their biggest recent signings.
Brandon Vera, who signed with the Singapore-based promotion back in July, will serve as headliner in ONE FC’s first event in the Philippines, ONE FC 22: Warrior’s Way, in December.
The event will take place December 5 at Mall of Asia Arena in Manila. An opponent has not been named, but it’s said that Vera will compete at heavyweight.
Vera, now in his twelfth year as professional mixed martial artist, had most recently fought in the UFC. He described the opportunity to fight for the first time in the Philippines as a dream.
“It’s always been a dream of mine to fight here in Manila,” he said at a media event in Manila, Philippines. “I’m blessed to have the opportunity to share my talents with you here, my first time out.”
Vera, whose family has its roots in Quezon Province, Philippines, repeatedly switched briefly to the Filipino language (Tagalog). He spoke of his heart being true Filipino, delighting the Manila crowd:
“Alam mo talaga, buhay ng Pilipino, mahirap, (For real, a Filipino’s life is hard.)” he said. “But no matter what, life is hard, life is good, masaya at maganda (it’s happy, and beautiful). It’s been a wild roller coaster ride to get here, but I’m here. Salamat (thank you).”
