ONE welterweight champion Ben Askren will return to action this April, defending his belt at ONE: Global Rivals against Nikolay Aleksakhin.
The bout was first reported by the Las Vegas Review-Journal late Wednesday night.
Askren (14-0) has not fought since a no-contest with Luis Santos in early 2015. He was scheduled for a rematch, but issues at the weigh-ins with Santos scrapped the bout.
“I am excited ot be fighting since my 2015 was pretty much ruined by one idiot,” said Askren, a former University of Missouri wrestling standout and ex-Bellator champion. “I can’t wait to get back in the cage and get down to business.”
Askren owns two first round stoppage wins since signing with the Asian-based promotion, defeating Nobutatsu Suzuki and Bakhtiyar Abbasov. He left Bellator having never lost the title, winning all nine of his matches.
Aleksakhin scored a victory via submission in his only ONE fight and is 16-3 in his career. The 25-year-old Russian has won six in a row.
