Alistair Overeem (32-11 MMA, 2-0 StrikeForce) says he will be fighting back in the U.S. very soon as Strikeforce is his new priority for 2010. In an interview with MMAJunkie (mmajunkie.com) Overeem said he will be returning May 15th in St. Louis, MO.
The Missouri State Athletic Commission is yet to receive the event permit for such an event, the word in the MMA community is this is a for sure deal.
Overeem’s Twitter account leaked earlier today through his twitter that he would be fighting Rogers next, as deals with Fedor were not coming to any conclusion. This has not been verified yet by any other sources then Overeems Twitter account.
When Overeem was asked if he would participate in the 2010 K-1 Grand Prix he said:
“If I can do K-1 after these fights or in between, that’s OK, but if not, then I will go for Strikeforce,” he said. “It’s been too long. Last year was a good year in K-1, but this year, I want to fight in MMA.”
This bout is rumored not to be a title match, as it would not make sense to give a title shot to someone who has just lost there last bout. Fighting without the belt on the belt does seem silly also, but these are the type of issues Strikeforce may have work with since it does not seem Fedor Emelianenko is working with the organization for the time being.
