Cris “Cyborg” Justino to Fight at 140 lb. — But Not Vs. Rousey (Yet…)

There are few things that MMA fans will agree on, unanimously.

But among them is that the women’s MMA scene is dominated by two fighters.

Both stand tall over their respective divisions: UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey (pictured above), and Invicta FC featherweight champion Cris “Cyborg” Justino (below).

Rousey is undefeated in MMA, having finished all her UFC opponents. Justino hasn’t lost since her MMA debut in 2005.

So naturally, fans have long hoped for the two to fight it out to decide an undisputed “queen” of MMA.

“Rousey isn’t the best until she beats ‘Cyborg’,” Wanderlei Silva said in a recent interview, and many fans agree.

But while the two have engaged in a war of words, it seems a bout between them is unlikely. Not only do they compete for different promotions, but a weight class — ten pounds — has seemingly kept them from ever meeting in the cage.

However, that may be changing.

At last night’s Invicta 14 post-fight press conference, Invicta CEO Shannon Knapp revealed that “Cyborg” will fight at a 140 lb. catch-weight at the promotion’s November event.

No opponent was announced. However, at last night’s broadcast, the promotion’s bantamweight champion, Tonya Evinger, was proposed as a possible “Cyborg” opponent.

The show’s  will be headlined by a strawweight title fight between 115 lb.  champion Livia Renata Souza (8-0), and rising star Alexa Grasso (7-0). Its date and location have yet to be announced.
