A couple weeks back I reported on kickboxing jihadist Valdet Gashi, who shucked the worldly bonds of being a kickboxing stud to join ISIS in Syria, then reportedly shucked his mortal coil in a drone strike or something. Well, the latest news is that he was likely executed by ISIS for trying to leave their ranks, which, um… ha. What an idiot.
A short while later, word surfaced that Gashi had been killed on July 27th, but it was originally assumed it had happened on the front lines of battle. The truth is a lot less romantic.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that Gashi tried “to escape with another group from IS-held areas in the northern countryside of Aleppo, where IS dragged them to an IS jail in the city of Manbej, northeast of Aleppo. Reliable sources confirmed that he was killed by IS militants.”
Oh well. The lesson here is that kickboxers should stick to kicking, I guess.
