The Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938 more or less prevents would-be employers from exploiting minors under the age of 14 (except those who work for their parents or on farms, because screw them). But what of promoters seeking to throw two kids in the cage and have them fight it out? If you’re in California, the state athletic commission there is totally cool with it – really?
Honestly, the action in the video below is pretty tame. The kid combatants are wearing a ton of protection, and the whole affair seems well-supervised and far from the UFC 1-type stuff that would make this an awful spectacle. The only thing that makes you do a double-take is the fact that there are children in a cage. Heck, kids compete in judo, jiu-jitsu and karate tournaments, and it’s not hard to find on YouTube Muay Thai bouts from Thailand featuring youngsters. Why not MMA?
