Nick Newell put forth a very uninspired performance against Tom Marcellino at tonight’s World Series of Fighting 24, but he did manage to secure the decision – and he announced his retirement from fighting, to boot.
For three rounds the one-armed fighter repeatedly took his foe to the ground, where he more or less maintained top position yet engaged in no ground and pound or went hard for a submission. However, fatigue made things go from bad to worse for both men, and by the time the bell rang, the curtain was dropped on what had turned out to be a less-than-exciting affair.
And then Newell retired.
At commercial break when Newell said it’s “getting too hard” and it’s time to “pass on his wisdom.” No mention on #WSOF24 broadcast yet.

Wow. Nick Newell announces his retirement. He didn’t hint at this at all during our convos this week.

Not to belabor a point, but if this truly is the end for Newell, he certainly accomplished great things in his run. I mean, the dude has one arm! And he challenged for the belt!
