The fight sports scene has something of a one track mind right now.
The upcoming boxing “mega-fight” between Floyd Mayweather Jr and Manny Pacquiao, which many of us had hoped for five years ago, is only a few days away.
So, naturally, it’s quiet on both the kickboxing and MMA front — as there’s just no competing with Mayweather vs. Pacquiao. The event is expected in fact, to break all previous PPV records.
But there’s more on the horizon in a few weeks: a UFC Fight Night in Australia, and a GLORY event in the US.
In fact, GLORY just announced their next event: GLORY 22, which will take place in June in France.
The still incomplete card was reported by Dave Walsh of Liverkick yesterday:
“Interesting additions like Freddy Kemayo, Verlinden fighting back at Light Heavyweight and that awesome tournament definitely stand out,” Walsh notes.
But I’m particularly excited about the main event, which will feature the return of Rico Verhoeven against an opponent to be announced.
Verhoeven is the consensus top heavyweight in the kickboxing world, currently riding a seven fight winning streak in GLORY. In his last GLORY appearance, the Dutchman scored his second victory against slugger Errol Zimmerman.
Mostly, it’s good to see GLORY continuing to hold events — as they’re among the most consistently entertaining in the fight world — and announce them in a timely manner.
In the meantime, enjoy GLORY’s teaser for their next event, GLORY 21 in San Diego on May 8:
