IRS takes James Toney’s $500,000 UFC purseOctober 27, 2010 by Joe Rocha

James Toney’s manager, John Arthur recently told MMAJunkie that the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) placed a lien on Toney’s $500,000 payout for his UFC debut back in August. Toney was informed only the day before his bout against Randy Couture. Toney’s camp went on to say they are currently in litigation to get the $500,000 back.

Arthur said he was shocked that he wasn’t notified of the lien by UFC officials, and he did not speak with any representatives after the fight.

“If this would have been (boxing promoter) Dan Goossen, I would have known about it the minute he got it,” he said. “I’ve been with Dan with many years, so I can’t compare him with the UFC.”

When Arthur was asked about Toney’s future in combat sports, Arthur said  he’s currently trying to get Toney another boxing fight before the end of the year and plans to revisit MMA in the first quarter of 2011.
