The highly anticipated rematch lived up to its hype. It may have not had an insane back-and-forth trade in the pocket like the first bout, but it did turn into a bloody war with both men digging deep to continue an explosive pace in the championship rounds. Both men came close to finishing the fight via rear-naked choke, but it was Alvarez that would take the five round split-decision to earn back his lightweight title.
The fight card as a whole was entertaining to say the least. We saw the featherweight title change hands as Pat Curran losses a decision to Daniel Straus. Also, Muhammad “King Mo” Lawal comes up short in his rematch fight against Emmanuel Newton, suffering a unanimous decision loss.
