It was one month ago here at Caged Insider when we last discussed that oddest of MMA sensations: the man known as Kimbo Slice.
In case you forgot: Bellator MMA president Scott Coker responded to questions about Slice, the former YouTube street fighting sensation who became an unlikely star in recent years.
Coker verified that Slice was not being considered as an opponent for the returning Fedor Emelianenko — noting: “We have other plans for Kimbo.”
“We’re going to fight him early next year,” Coker said. “And I think next year, you’re going to see Kimbo Slice fight three times in Bellator.”
Today, a report from the Houston Chronicle may have revealed at least part of those plans.
Slice, aka Kevin Ferguson, is said to be headlining a Bellator event in Houston, Texas to take place Feb 19. An opponent has yet to be named.
Among the possible opponent could be the winner of the upcoming Bobby Lashley vs. James Thompson bout, to take place Nov 6 in Scottsdale, Arizona. The bout may be especially promising for Thompson who fought Slice back in 2008 at an Elite XC event in New Jersey. That night, Slice won via third round TKO.
Slice’s last bout was a TKO win over Ken Shamrock. Both fighters endured controversy following the bout, which was seen by many as less than legitimate. Some felt the bout was an outright fix, others felt perhaps Shamrock “took a dive” without Slice’s knowing.
