As the MMA world continues to ponder the possibilities now that “Rampage” Jackson has become the latest high profile name to join the promotion’s ranks, the former UFC light-heavyweight champ has begun talking about what led to the deal. While it was obvious that due to Jackson’s resume and charisma he would wind up with another big stage promotion, it wasn’t clear until today that it would be with the Viacom property.
Jackson was reached by TMZ.com for a comment on his new deal, and here’s what the 34 year-old vet had to say about the agreement, which will also include opportunities with TNA Impact Wrestling.
“When you look at my deal in the UFC, and the scope of what my deal with Bellator and TNA is, this is a dream come true.”
“When other fighters get the chance to see everything I’m able to do with this deal and the benefits it provides, you’re going to see a big change in MMA. I guarantee it.”
Of course, considering Jackson criticized the UFC openly about what he believes was unfair compensation and treatment before his run with the promotion ended, it’s not surprising to see him crediting his new employer. That said, the timing of the deal and Jackson’s praise comes at a great time for Bellator, which is need of a PR boost due to its ongoing legal battle with Eddie Alvarez and recent criticisms from other fighters about its contracts.
Bellator has a press conference planned for Wednesday to discuss “Rampage’s” new deal in more detail. The promotion’s upcoming season certainly got more interesting no?
