Alvarez-vs-Aoki

Eddie Alvarez vs. Shinya Aoki II agreed to for Bellator 66February 20, 2012 by Joe Rocha

Dream lightweight champ Shinya Aoki will look to make his Bellator debut against former Bellator champ Eddie Alvarez at Bellator 66 on April 20. The venue for the event is yet to be decided at this time.

The two originally met in Dec. of 2008 for a WAMMA lightweight championship bout as Alvarez was submitted by the submission specialist in only 92 seconds via heel hook.

Since then Alvarez has gone 8-1 with seven by finishes well becoming the Bellator lightweight champ. Alvarez in his streak defeated top fighters Pat Curran, Roger Huerta, and Josh Neer before his recent loss to newcomer Michael Chandler in Nov. of 2011.

Aoki has continued his success since the first bout, going 11-2 in MMA.  The Japanese star is currently riding a seven fight win-streak after losing to Strikeforce champ Gilbert Melendez. Aoki has taken out top fighters Rob McCullough, Rich Clementi, Lyle Beerbom and Tatsuya Kawajiri as of late.
