Bellator Announces Return to California
With Bellator having moved their base of operations to Newport Beach, CA, you can expect a lot more events to be held in the Golden State. The first one was Bellator 85, which was the Season Eight opener, and they have now announced Bellator 92, which will take place in Temecula. The event is set to take place on March 7, and will be headlined by the Season Seven Lightweight Tournament final between Dave Jansen and Marcin Held, which was postponed due to injury.
The fight between Jansen and Held will be an interesting one as both have an affinity for the ground game. Held likes to attack the legs, with all four of his last submission wins coming by way of heelhook, kneebar, or toehold. But he is not invulnerable; he was submitted by current lightweight champion Michael Chandler in the opening round of the Season Four Lightweight Tournament. Jansen has won 11 of his 19 victories by way of submission, but has never been submitted himself. If Held wins he will be looking at a rematch with Chandler, but Jansen has called this his last chance at stardom and will be hungry for a win in this bout.
With Bellator now making California their home they are sure to pick up a lot of local talent. Bellator 85 had many fighters from the Orange County area filling up the undercard. You can bet they will do the same when the fights hit Temecula, which is the home of Dan Henderson’s Team Quest. One fighter that they are rumored to have signed is Ultimate Fighter and Strikeforce alum Ricky Legere Jr., who is potentially dropping to 155 after spending the majority of his career at welterweight. He will not be the last local fighter they put on the card, and look for more names to be announced in the coming month.
