When it became apparent that Rory MacDonald was never going to win the belt, the Canadian left the safe harbor of the UFC to try the untested waters of Bellator. Well, at Bellator 179 in London, UK, yesterday, MacDonald reminded us all that it doesn’t matter where the waters are, ’cause the shark is going to eat.
Taking on Brit striker Paul Daley, the former UFC title contender owned Daley on the feet and on the ground. To his credit, Daley hung in there, but the was nigh when it turned into a jiu-jitsu match in Round 2; the tap out via rear naked choke came at 1:45.
Where does that leave MacDonald? He’ll get a shot at the winner of Douglas Lima versus Lorenz Larkin (presumably, one of those men will be holding the belt).
As for Daley…
…Here’s the brawl that erupted when he attacked Michael Page in the audience.
