Someone needs to pull the plug on this Melvin Guillard experiment, because if left unchecked the dude is going to get himself killed.
At last night’s Bellator 171, Guillard stepped into the cage for the main event slot looking to earn a win – something that’s eluded him since 2014. Well, it didn’t just elude him against Chidi Njokuani; it wasn’t even remotely in sight.
Aside from a lackluster first round full of fouls, Njokuani dominated the TUF pioneer and UFC vet, using his vastly greater size and range to pick Guillard apart like a Thanksgiving turkey. To his credit, Guillard survived hella punishment, avoiding the TKO by sheer will and resiliency. But damn, he got smoked pretty hard.
When the scores were read, there was no questioning the judges who had deemed 30-25, 30-26 and 30-24 to be accurate assessments of what had transpired. Someone stick a fork in Guillard, ’cause he’s done.
